MMWIF to do Easter rescue!
If you think you’re having a bit of a tough time at the moment, get someone to give you a slap across the chops as there are people out there that really are doing it tough but showing incredible strength and resilience in the face of serious adversity.
Meet Grayson. He is a true warrior boy. The list of battles this brave 2-year-old has already endured is beyond devastating.
Born with Downs Syndrome AND a rare bone marrow cancer, which he fought and beat, a year later after falling seriously ill, it was discovered that Greyson now had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
Grayson got sick immediately from his first treatment. By his 3rd treatment he was fighting for his life. Mum and Dad were told to expect the worse.
He was put on high-powered antibiotics, and he had 10 blood transfusions and 6 platelet transfusions in his treatment. Grayson kept fighting.
Worse still. Grayson was allergic to his chemotherapy. It was killing him while hopefully curing him. Grayson fought for 7 months and beat his second round of leukemia.
He finally had his last bag of chemotherapy! He got happier and finally returned home to be with his siblings and family. Unfortunately, there is a very high chance of relapse. Can you imagine living with that fear every single day.
Meet Mark and Rebecca. Mum and Dad. Devoted parents to Grayson and older brother Ryland.
They have spent their entire life savings on keeping Grayson alive and in treatment. The car they relied on died early in Grayson’s treatment. They were donated another car that was then written off after a rogue Emu decided to choose to cross the road in front of Rebecca. With a small insurance payout and little savings, they found a cheap car through a dealer. The car lasted 4 hours! Dealer not very helpful.
The family rent a ‘portable’ house in a paddock in a town called Boddington which is 1.5 hours southeast of Perth.. And more importantly Perth Childrens Hospital.
This was just a few weeks ago. The amazing Richard and Kara Knell whose tireless work with the Kids Cancer Support Group in Perth is worthy of Australian (s) of the year recognition, reached out to MMWIF to see if there was something we could do.
On Thursday this week we (Michael Manion Wool Industry Foundation) were delighted to hand the keys to a car that will hopefully be the start of an overdue run of good luck for this family. Rebecca has given so much to agriculture in her life after being raised in Crookwell, NSW. It was a great pleasure for our wonderful foundation to be able to get this family back on the road.
We’d also like to give a special mention to Julian Santiago from John Hughes Cars found a very suitable car and discounted generously to get this deal done very quickly. He also went an extra mile to ensure the car had some fabulous soft toys for the kids.
You’re a legend Julian. Anyone in WA looking for a car make sure you ask for Julian Montes de Oca at John Hughes New Cars in Vic Park.
We can only wish this family and little Grayson the best going forward and truly hope much positivity and good fortune come their way.
Happy Easter to everyone who supports our extraordinary foundation. Micheal would be very proud of all of you who continually support and donate to allow us to keep helping “Rural Families in need”.
If you would like to further donate please contact anyone on the board or via Facebook.
