Meet Troy – MMWIF Tough Guy Of The Year Award

Meet Troy Stoeckel. Troy and his wife Kellie are from Mukinbudin, in the Eastern Wheatbelt of WA.

Troy is a retired farmer from the area who in the act of helping a local farming mate of his, was badly injured when the tractor he was moving, lost its steering and suffered a rollover pinning Troy underneath the tractor for over two hours in this remote area.

Long (frightening) story short, Troy suffered many injuries including severe acid burns from the upturned batteries and a crushed lower arm. Troy also suffered a heart attack while pinned underneath! Fair to say that Troy wins our tough guy of the year award! We should also mention that Troy had several debilitating conditions before this even happened! Including fibromyalgia, chronic pain and chronic fatigue. Troy needs to avoid black cats for a while.

Finally, Troy was freed and sent to Kununoppin local hospital then onto Royal Perth before heading to Fiona Stanley Burns Unit. Fair to say Troy has been to hell and back, but the good news is he has survived and ready to return home after almost four months recovering.

Thanks to Steve Paterson, a local Mukinbudin shearing legend, we were notified about Troy and Kellie and the financial burden they are bearing in the accumulating costs that four months away from home have incurred.

The MMWIF board quickly agreed that the Stoeckel’s are definitely a “rural family in need” and we are delighted to have passed on a significant injection to make Troy’s recovery a lot less stressful.

We wish Troy and Kellie all the best for a much-improved 2024.

If you would also like to help out the Stoeckels, their daughter has set up a GoFundMe page that further help her parents.
